WPL 2024 will be organized in only one state, Jay Shah confirmed

WPL 2024: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah on Saturday announced that the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 will be played in only one state due to logistical reasons and will start from February.

Jay Shah told this to the journalists :-

“The tournament will start in February and we will organize it in one state,” Shah told reporters. For us, logistics are very important this time. Shah’s comments came amid reports that the WPL could be held in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Jay Shah also revealed that the IPL will start in the last week of March and end at the end of May.

However, he did not reveal in which state the WPL will be held. He said, “We have many places where we can host matches, including Bengaluru and Uttar Pradesh. After a few years we can do it in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Vadodara of Gujarat also. A decision in this regard will be taken after discussion with the franchise owners. It is basically a joint call between the franchises and BCCI. We will sit together and decide…”

The BCCI secretary also said that the venue will be selected keeping in mind that it does not coincide with the matches of the domestic season. “We will see where the stadium will be available,” he said. Domestic matches are going on in Gujarat, Chandigarh and Ranchi. It is not that we want to hold WPL matches in Mumbai only.

WPL 2024: Kashvee Gautam became India’s most expensive uncapped player :-

Gujarat Giants included Punjab fast bowler Kashvee Gautam in their team for Rs 2 crore in the WPL auction. In this way, Kashvi became India’s most expensive sold ‘uncapped’ player whereas there was a lot of demand for Australian players at the beginning of the auction. The ‘base price’ of Kashvi was Rs 10 lakh. Both Gujarat and UP Warriors bid for him. But the Gujarat team was successful in winning the bid to hire his services for the second phase of the WPL.
