CSK VS RCB: How Jadeja Made 37 Runs In One Over

The irrepressible Ravindra Jadeja blasted an IPL record-equalling 37 runs in one over. Then grabbed three big wickets in an outstanding all-round Chennai Super Kings crushed Royal Challengers Bangalore 69 runs, on Sunday. Jadeja beat 62 off 28 balls and lifted CSK to 191 for four after skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni opted to bat in a top-of-the-table clash. Then, with his slow left-arm spin bowling, the star all-rounder picked up the important wickets of AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell to derail RCB’s run-chase on a sluggish Wankhede pitch.

Some time back, Jadeja would struggle to clear long-on against pacers. He was fine hitting spinners but not against pacers, who stopped his attacking instincts by bowling short of a length. What changed?

The arm extension and the arching of the back are two major tweaks in his batting. He still targets the mid-wicket and long-on fence. The difference is that he connects them more consistently against pacers than he had done in the past. That apart, his back also arches backward in an exaggerated manner as he strives to get extra force into his shots.

Patel, who is the Purple Cap holder in IPL 2021. He had returned figures of 3/14 from his first three overs, and bowling the final over of the innings. With CSK on 154/4. Jadeja tucked into the best bowler of the afternoon for RCB, smashing five sixes off the over. He smoked four sixes in a row, including a six off a no-ball and the free-hit to go with a double and a four to cap off the over.

After Kohli fell to a slower ball from Sam Curran (1/35) and Padikkal was dismissed by Shardul Thakur (1/11), things went downhill for the Bengaluru team as it slipped to 81 for 5 in the 10th over.
