Daren Sammy appointed coach of West Indies: Darren Sammy, who led the West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles, has been appointed as the head coach of the West Indies T20I and ODI team. Andre Colie, who was the interim coach of the West Indies following the resignation of Phil Simmons, has been named coach of the Test and West Indies A teams. Kishore Shallow, president of West Indies Cricket, told that Sammy had applied only for the post of coach of ODI and T20 team.

A total of 20 applications were received for this post. Of these, Sammy has been selected for the post. Former West Indies coach Shivnarine Chanderpaul had also applied, but Sammy was given preference over him. Sammy will serve as West Indies coach for the first time in the ODI series against UAE in June. After this, world qualifier matches will be played in June-July.

Cricket WI: Sammy said in a statement:

“It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m up for it and looking forward to it. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity, especially given the players we have and I’m confident that we’ll be able to do that,” Sammy said in a statement. I can make an impact in the dressing room. I am sure I will bring the same approach as a player: passion, desire to succeed and my undying love for West Indies cricket.”

He further added “When I look around there is an abundance of talent. From what I saw in South Africa under the leadership of new captains Shai Hope and Rovman Powell. There is a lot of belief that we can do well. Keen to impart my tactical skills, my communication skills and my man-management skills. I am excited to put the plans together and explain them to the players.”

Andre Collie said:-

Collie first assignment will be the two-match home Test series against India in July. “I look forward to the challenges as well as the opportunities ahead as we focus on moving up the Test rankings and qualifying for the World Test Championship final in June 2025,” Kohli said. I also look forward to working with all stakeholders to deepen relationships and foster a high-performance mindset.”
