Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) hopes of winning IPL 2024 have been dealt a major blow with star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell taking a break from cricket. It is now highly unlikely that Maxwell will play any further part in the tournament.

• Batting Woes: Maxwell’s decision to step away stems from his poor batting form in the ongoing IPL season. He has managed just 32 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 94, with his highest score being 28 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

• Mental Health Issues Revisited: This is not the first time Maxwell has taken a break from cricket due to mental health concerns. In 2019, he took a six-month hiatus from the game citing similar reasons.

• Stepping Aside: Maxwell informed RCB captain Faf du Plessis and the coaching staff about his decision to take a break before the match against Hyderabad. He was initially ruled out of the Hyderabad match due to a finger injury sustained against Mumbai Indians. However, Maxwell later confirmed that he had requested to be dropped from the team.
• Focus on Well-being: Maxwell stated that the decision was “pretty easy” and that he needed to prioritize his mental and physical well-being. He expressed hope that he could return stronger if needed later in the tournament.

• RCB’s Loss: Maxwell’s absence is a significant blow to RCB’s title aspirations. He is a key all-rounder who contributes with both bat and ball. His departure creates a big void in the team’s balance.
