IPL 2021: Australia, New zealand wait, and England players reach home.

A day after IPL 2021 had to be postponed because of the Covid-19 situation. All eight franchises have started to disband, with their players and support staff trying to find a way back home quickly.

England:

Eight out of 11 England players who participated in the league have safely returned home. The remaining three players – Eoin Morgan, Chris Jordan, and Dawid Malan will also board the flight back home in the next 48 hours.

Eight of the 11 England players who were at the IPL – Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, and Sam Billings – landed at London’s Heathrow Airport early on Wednesday morning. As per the UK government’s policy. these players will now serve a ten-day quarantine at government-approved hotels.

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, the BCCI immediately got into action to live up to the promise of sending players back home safely.

Australia:

Australian cricketers, involved in the suspended IPL, will soon fly to the Maldives in a chartered flight and wait there till Australia opens its borders to receive them, an official said on Wednesday.

Australia has sealed its borders to travelers from India until May 15 due to the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the postponement of the League.

New-Zealand:

New Zealand Cricket Players Association boss Heath Mills said the situation is more complicated. The 10 New Zealanders wanting to come home.

“Some of the IPLfranchises are being very good. There is a possibility of a chartered flight being organized within the next 24 hours and taking some of our people home. The others probably need to work through commercial flights and get to another port like Doha. They can get on a plane to New Zealand,” Mills said.

Most of the players from England have reached the UK. The Australians, the biggest overseas contingent in the IPL with close to 40 members. They are hoping to board charter planes soon from the Maldives or Sri Lanka. The New Zealanders will split into two groups, one heading home and the other to England. Some Indian players, and others, have already reached home, while the others have their bags packed.
