Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs at MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, 13 April 2021.

Defending 152, Mumbai Indians restricted Kolkata Knight Riders 142/7 to register a 10-run victory in chennai. KKR opener-Nitish Rana and Shubhman Gill added 72 runs to give a solid start but a mini collapse in the death overs turned the game in favour of MI. Earlier Andre Russell took 5 for 15 in 2 overs to help KKR bowled out MI for 152 in 20 overs. Sent in to bat, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav 76 runs for the second wicket steady Mumbai Indians after an early blow.

The first defeat of the season has been described by KKR captain Eoin Morgan as ‘disappointing’. He said, “Yes, it is disappointing.” The match was in our grip for most of the time while chasing the target in the second innings after the first innings. We made some mistakes but will try to fix it. We did not play well in the last 10 overs. Mumbai’s team has been playing for such a long time (better bowling in the last over). This is something that we have to pay attention to. ”

“Eoin Morgan had given a statement that they will play that way (with postive intent) after the first game but it didn’t look like that when Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik came in to bat. The way Russell and Karthik batted, it felt like they planned to take the game till the end and win it. But that didn’t happen. The batters who came before them – be it Shakib Al Hasan, Eoin Morgan, Shubman Gill or Nitish Rana – all of them played with positive intent,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
