Sri Lanka’s economy has been in decline since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting tourism and imports.
Sri Lanka is also facing a foreign exchange crunch, which has affected its ability to import food and fuel.
The shortage of essential commodities has forced Sri Lanka to seek cooperation from other countries.
Sri Lankans have held massive protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The falling economy has led to massive protests across the country and Ranatunga has now requested the cricketers to support it.

I really don’t know but there are some cricketers who are playing great in IPL but haven’t talked about their country. Unfortunately, people are afraid to speak against the government.
These cricketers are also working for the cricket board under the ministry and trying to save their jobs.
But now they have to take a step as some young cricketers have also come forward and made statements in support of the protest.
He further added, “When something is going wrong you must have the courage to come out and speak out against it without thinking about your business.

People ask me why I am not in protest. The only thing is that I have been in politics for the last 19 years and this is not a political issue.
Till now, no political parties and politicians have come to the protest and this is the biggest strength of the people of this country.”

Let us tell you that Sri Lankan players like Wanindu Hasranga and Bhanuka Rajapakshe have given statements in approval of the ongoing protests against the economic crisis.
The former cricketer said, “I am sure you all know who are the players who play in the IPL. I don’t want to mention it. But I want him to quit his job for a week and come in approval of the protest.”
