Former Bengal Spinner Murtaza Lodhagar Dies at the Age of 45
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Avishek Dalmiya has confirmed that former Bengal left-arm spinner and Mizoram Under-19 coach Murtaza Lodhagar died of cardiac arrest in Visakhapatnam on Friday night.
Murtaza Lodhagar Ready to Play in the League Stage of Vinoo Mankad Trophy :
Murtaza Lodhagar, 45, was in the port city with the players from Mizoram. who were set to play in the league stage of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Because the home season of BCCI is about to start.
Murtaza Was Declared Dead Late on Friday night:
“The tragedy happened after dinner,” Dalmiya told PTI. “Murtaza Lodhagar (as he known in Bengal circles) went out for a walk after dinner with the team physio and suddenly felt severe chest pain and collapsed on the road.” immediately taken to the hospital. The CAB is currently trying to make arrangements. So that his family can bring his remains to the city for burial.
Murtaza Lodhagar Was a Powerhouse Performer in Club Cricket:
Murtaza Lodhagar was a powerhouse performer in club cricket. But due to the presence of domestic legend Utpal Chatterjee, he played only nine Ranji Trophy matches. In which he took 34 wickets.
The highlight of his short first-class career was his five-wicket haul against Karnataka at the JU (Salt Lake) ground in the 2004–05 season. He played a few more matches in that season. But he didn’t get consistent chances as he was on the wrong side of his 30s. And were a bit partial to top level cricket.
Mortaza Lodhagar was also a regular in the bustling club cricket scene in the United Kingdom.
