IPL 2024: Get Ready For Bouncers Galore! A New Rule Spices Up The IPL! The wait is almost over! IPL 2024 kicks off on March 22nd, and this season promises to be the most unique in its 17-year history. Why? Because a special rule is coming into play that’ll have the bowlers cheering!
So, What’s This ‘Special Rule’?
It’s the ‘two bouncers’ rule! Yep, for the first time ever, bowlers can legally bowl two bouncers per over in the IPL. This rule was previously only applicable in ODI and Test cricket.

What Difference Will This Make?
This is a game-changer for bowlers! Every ball counts in T20 cricket, and facing 40 bouncers in an innings can be a real test for batsmen.
But this rule might throw a curveball at the batsmen. Can they adapt to this ‘special’ rule and overcome the challenge?
Where Was This Rule Tested Before?
The ‘two bouncers’ rule’ was first trialed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and now it’s making its IPL debut!
Does this rule apply to T20 Internationals too?
Nope, T20 Internationals still stick to the one-bouncer-per-over rule.
Why didn’t BCCI follow the ICC rule change?
The BCCI decided not to adopt the ICC’s recent change regarding separate DRS reviews for catches and stumpings. The board believes not checking for a catch before reviewing a stumping would be unfair to the fielding side.
What about DRS in IPL 2024?
Each team will have two referrals per innings, just like last season. You can also use a referral for wides and no-balls, same as before.
