Shreyas Iyer Ready To Go Abroad For Back Surgery And Out Of IPL 2023 And WTC Final. He is expected to be out for at least three months before resuming training.

Iyer is to undergo surgery on his injured back:-

India batsman Shreyas Iyer will undergo surgery on his injured back and hence will miss the entire 2023 IPL and the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) in June.

ESPNcricinfo has learned that Iyer, the full-time captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, will be traveling abroad for surgery.

Months dropped from the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy:-

A recurring back injury ruled him out of the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last month.

After which he was dropped from the ODI series against Australia. Earlier, he had suffered due to the same injury in December after India’s tour of Bangladesh.

He was caused by a bulge in a disc in his spine:-

It is understood that on both occasions he experienced inflammation in his lower back, caused by a bulging disc in his spine.

As a result of which there was an injury to the nerve. The nerve runs along the right leg and causes sharp pain in Ayer’s calf.

Which has exacerbated their mobility issues. It is also learned that he was given injections to numb the back pain.
