According to him, Dhoni is currently playing only for the captaincy in the team and according to the rules, the captain cannot be an impact player.

During the conversation on Cricbuzz, Sehwag said- ‘If you are fit then it (playing cricket at the age of 40) is not difficult. MS Dhoni hasn’t batted much this year.

He doesn’t want to aggravate his knee injury. Often, he used to come in the last two overs. If I count his total balls, I think he must have faced 40-50 balls this season.

On the other hand, Sehwag further said that- ‘Impact player rule does not apply to MS Dhoni as he is only playing for the captaincy.

He has to be in the field for captaincy. The impact player rule is for someone who does not field but bats, or a bowler who is not required to bat.

Dhoni will have to field 20 overs, if he is not the captain he will not play as an impact player either. Then, you will see him as a mentor or coach, or director of cricket.
