WIPL 2023: Only four months are left for the Women’s IPL (WIPL) to start. And the BCCI is yet to announce its plans. One point that has not yet been made public is obtaining a franchise. However, as per a report in News18, the BCCI is considering a base price of Rs 400 crore. This is the same base price that the BCCI had fixed for the men’s IPL franchise in 2008. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will have their own WIPL teams and both teams prepared their papers as soon as BCCI announced it. Also, 5 other IPL teams have also shown interest.

BCCI approves WIPL of five teams at AGM

Last month, the BCCI approved the WIPL of five teams at the AGM. The board also finalized the 22-match format for the tournament. Existing men’s IPL franchises have also shown interest in buying the franchise.

A CSK official had earlier told InsideSport, “We will be interested in buying a women’s IPL team after going through the proper process.”

The tournament is likely to start in the second week of March 2023 and end around March 23. Will host matches in two or more cities.

The tournament will be played over two weeks with 22 matches. The WIPL will follow a league and playoff format with the top team directly qualifying for the final. The second and third-place teams will play an eliminator. The team owners are set to be finalized by December.
