Women IPL 2023 Media Rights: There is bound to be a fierce battle for the media rights of the Women’s Indian Premier League. According to reports, the country’s top 3 broadcasters and OTT platforms are taking ‘great interest’ in bidding for the WIPL media rights. All 3 ie Disney+ Star, Sony-ZEE Combine, and Viacom18 will bid for WIPL media rights. The bid submission date is January 16.

WIPL reached out to all the 3 broadcasters to inquire about their interest in the media rights bidding. While none are ready to officially come on the record at this stage – all 3 confirmed their interest in bidding for WIPL. (InsideSport)

All 3 top broadcasters are looking at women’s cricket as a ‘growth vehicle’ for the game of cricket and no one wants to leave the bus.

When is the deadline for bid submission?

The submission of bid papers for media rights will be done on January 16. The date for buying the tender was over on December 31. According to BCCI officials, more than 10 parties including Disney Star, Sony Network, and Viacom18 have selected the tender document. Interested parties will now have to submit their closed bids by January 12.

The tender for the WIPL franchise has also been floated. The inaugural season of WIPL 2023 is likely to be played from March 3 to 26.

According to BCCI insiders, apart from the top 3, Amazon Prime, FanCode, Times Internet, Google, and Discovery have chosen the tender documents.

Significantly, the BCCI has not kept the base price for the media rights tender.

  • The media tender was recently issued for the period 2023-2027.
  • The tender was available for purchase till 31 December.
  • More than 10 parties have taken out tenders.

  • The BCCI will follow a closed bidding process to award the media rights for the Women’s IPL.

According to a top BCCI official, ‘The upcoming women’s IPL league can fetch more than 1000 crores in the auction for each franchise.’

40 crore limit for each franchisee

The board official also confirmed to InsideSport that the PLAYER’s salary purse for women players could be in the range of 40 crores for each franchise. This means that like their counterparts, WIPL will make women cricketers crorepatis next year.
