New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will miss the upcoming ODI World Cup in India after rupturing a knee ligament during the IPL 2023 game between GT and CSK. Williamson was signed by GT during the mini-auction last year, requires surgery after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while fielding during the IPL 2023 opener.

Reacting to the news of Williamson’s injury, the Pakistan captain penned a heart-warming post for his Kiwi counterpart. Babar wished Williamson a speedy recovery and said the star batsman would make a strong comeback. Kane Williamson’s absence will be a huge blow for the Black Caps, who have never won the World Cup but finished runners-up in the last two tournaments.

Williamson said in a statement – “Naturally it’s disappointing to get such an injury, but my focus now is on having the surgery and starting rehab. It’s going to take some time but I’ll be doing everything I can to get back on the field as soon as possible.”
