BCCI President Sourav Ganguly will not play the only exhibition match on September 16 which will serve to lift the curtain for the second season of Legends League Cricket (LLC). In a letter to the league, Sourav Ganguly expressed his inability to play, citing “professional commitments and constant work with the cricket administration”.

“It (Legends League Cricket) is a wonderful idea to bring retired cricketers back on the cricket field and connect with fans across generations,” Ganguly said in a statement to the LLC.

“However, due to my professional commitments and constant working with the cricket administration, I will not be able to participate in this game. I am sure the fans are eagerly waiting for this league and the stadium will be very crowded.

The league is bringing together stalwarts of the sport and I am sure there will be exciting cricket on display.

Ganguly said he will be at the Eden Gardens to watch a game between the Indian maharajas and the world’s stalwarts, led by England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan.

The match will also be celebrated to mark 75 years of India’s independence and the proceeds from the game will be donated to Kapil Dev’s Khushi Foundation, which supports girls’ education.

The team of Indian Maharajas includes former players like Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Parthiv Patel.

Veterans include former South African star, Jacques Kallis

The Giants include former South African stars Jacques Kallis, Jonty Rhodes, Dale Steyn, and Herschelle Gibbs, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan, and Australia’s Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson.

The final of the second season of LLC is to be held on October 8. The tournament consists of four teams led by Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Pathan, and Harbhajan.
