BCCI’s AGM to be held on October 3; election officer appointed

The much-awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be held in the third week of October, preferably between October 16 and 20. Sources in the BCCI and state associations, who collectively participated in the AGM, have said that the likely date for the general body meeting is October 18, though a final confirmation is awaited.

The selections will also be held for BCCI on the same day and it is learned that the Board has already appointed the Election Officer for the same. AK Jyoti, who was in the post earlier, will oversee the elections this time as well. It is generally up to the Returning Officer to send the notification for the election.

Elections for state units as well as for BCCI

Usually, elections for state units as well as BCCI are held by the end of September, but given the recent Supreme Court order, general meetings of both BCCI and state associations have been delayed. Mumbai is the most likely venue for the BCCI AGM.

Following the Supreme Court’s relief on the cooling-off clause in the Constitution, the BCCI will have a single set of office-bearers and some confusion persists over the continuation of President Sourav Ganguly. Secretary Jay Shah may be made the next chairman, but still, the final decision has not been taken by the officials concerned. Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal can become the secretary.

Anirudh Choudhary could be a possible former treasurer in the new government

Possible newcomers to the new government could be former treasurer Anirudh Choudhary, who fought tirelessly for the autonomy of the BCCI and its office bearers during the three years of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) rule in the BCCI, and Rohan Jaitley. Son of late Arun Jaitley, who was one of the strong defenders of BCCI powers. Rajeev Shukla could be a contender for the post of IPL President.

The MCA held its AGM on September 13, but following the Supreme Court order on the constitution, the election may be postponed until after the BCCI elections.
