Test No. 1 Australian bowler Pat Cummins think fast bowlers don’t think about taking wickets on Indian pitches
Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins has said that on Indian pitches the role of fast bowlers is often to maintain runs and not take wickets.
Pat Cummins, who has returned from India after the Indian Premier League 2021 was postponed and is quarantining, said bowling on Indian pitches is a challenge that a fast bowler has to keep pace with.
Cummins said about Indian Pitches
“My opinion is a bit different from many batsmen and bowlers around the world. Sometimes the Indian pitches are spin-friendly. And if they are not spin-friendly, they are quite flat. You don’t get as much momentum in the pace like Australia, South Africa, or England, ”said the Australian, who represented the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was postponed earlier this month.
“It is a challenge, maybe you have adjusted. Maybe your goal is to keep the runs under control if wickets are not possible. It is a little different, ”he said while speaking during a session with fans on Youtube.
The fast bowler ranked No.1 in the Test bowlers’ rankings, has played just two Tests in India, and has taken eight wickets. His average in India is the worst among the five countries in which he has played Test cricket. His average in India is 30.25 which is slightly better than his 29 (six wickets in two Tests) in Bangladesh.
One of the reasons why he did not do well in India and Bangladesh is that he came on a Test tour in 2017 when he was returning from injuries and walking with caution. He played four Tests (against India and Bangladesh) in 2017 after five and a half years.
However, his inconsistent performance with the ball in the Indian Premier League (IPL) showed that he needed to find a way to perform well under the conditions of the subcontinent.
He took 12 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2020 and nine wickets in seven matches in the postponed Indian Premier League 2021.
Cummins said, “Personally I felt that my bowling was not clicking and it was annoying.”
