Moeen Ali’s bowling spell became the turning point of the match, trouble for LSG

Chennai Super Kings team played IPL match for the first time after 2019 at their home ground and defeated Lucknow Supergiants by a margin of 12 runs. In the match played at Chepauk Stadium, CSK batting first scored 217 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the team of LSG could score 205 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. CSK also opened their account of victory in the current IPL.

Dhoni handed the ball to Moeen –

Chasing the target of 218 runs, Lucknow Supergiants got off to a stormy start by openers Kyle Mayers (53) and captain KL Rahul (20). Both shared a 79-run partnership in just 5.3 overs. It seemed that CSK, who returned to their home ground after four years, would have a disappointing start.

Seeing his bowlers being thrashed, MS Dhoni handed over the responsibility of the last over of the powerplay to Moeen Ali. The off-spinner lived up to his captain’s faith and got the dreaded Mears caught out by Devon Conway. In his next over, Ali made Lucknow captain KL Rahul (20) the victim. Moeen Ali’s bowling spell proved to be the turning point of the match.

Moeen Ali bowled four overs in the match and took four wickets. He took the wickets of Krunal Pandya (9) in the third over of his spell and Marcus Stoinis (21) in the last over. Moeen Ali bowled four overs, taking four wickets for just 26 runs. It was also his best bowling spell in IPL. Moeen Ali was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling spell.
