Historic moment to be seen in cricket, transgender will play first international match
Transgender to play cricket: Canada’s Danielle McGahey will become the first transgender cricketer to play in an international match. She will represent the team in a regional qualifying tournament for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh next month.
The first transgender got a place in the team :-
29-year-old opening batsman Danielle McGahey has been named in Canada’s women’s squad for the qualifying tournament after meeting the ICC’s eligibility rules for male-to-female transgender players. The qualifying tournament will be played from September 4 to 11 in Los Angeles.
What did Danielle McGahey say :-
Canada will face Argentina, Brazil and the United States in the ICC Americas Qualifier for a spot in the global qualifiers. McGahey spoke to BBC Sport saying “I’m absolutely honoured. To be able to represent my community is something I never dreamed I’d be able to do.”
ICC gave a statement on McGahey getting a place in the team: –
On McGahey being allowed to become the first transgender person to play international cricket, the ICC said in a statement; “We can confirm that Danielle McGahey went through the required process under the ICC’s player eligibility rules and as a result she has been allowed to return to international women’s cricket on this basis.” Eligibility to participate is provided that she meets the MTF transgender rules.
How is Danielle McGahey ‘s health :-
McGahey said that she is doing everything in her power to realize her dream of playing international cricket. I have been taking blood tests every month for more than two years. I also have to put in my player profile who I have played against and how many runs I have scored.
