Former fast bowler Zaheer Khan believes that injuries to several players, including Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav’s failures in three consecutive ODIs have once again put Team India on the boat of the 2019 ODI World Cup. Even four years ago, Team India was struggling to find a permanent batsman for the number four position.

Zaheer Khan said-

“This batting order is something that the team management will definitely have to revisit. The team management will again have to explore the option at number four. It was something that was discussed for the 2019 World Cup as well.”

Zaheer added – “We are still talking about the same after four years. We are in the same boat now. I think Shreyas Iyer is your regular number batsman. You see Shreyas taking that role and that responsibility. But if he is injured for a long time now, you have to find an answer.”

Despite the poor performance, India captain Rohit Sharma supported Suryakumar in the press conference after the defeat in the third and deciding ODI against Australia.

Rohit said –

“He ( Suryakumar ) played only three balls in three matches in this series. I don’t know how much to look into it. To be honest, he played three good balls. He knows what to do. He plays spin very well. We have seen over the years. So we kept him in the team in the 3rd ODI and gave him that role for the last 15-20 overs where he can play his game but that didn’t happen. It can happen to anyone.”
