Indian players were casual racism in Sydney: R Ashwin

Was Indian players reportedly humiliated by ‘casual racism’ in Sydney? R Ashwin relates lift incident.

The Indian cricket team created history in Australia as they won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the third straight time by winning the four-Test series 2-1.

The win was made a lot sweeter when the Indian cricket team overcame the absence of their talismanic skipper Virat Kohli.

Also overcame injuries to Md Shami, U Yadav, Bumrah, R Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari to script a fairytale win in Brisbane.

Ravichandran Ashwin and R Sridhar’s conversation:

India off-spinner R Ashwin in his YouTube conversation with fielding coach R Sridhar added another chapter to off the field incidents in Australia by revealing that Indian cricketers were not allowed to enter the lift in Sydney if any member of the Australian squad was already inside it.

Ashwin said the Indian team ‘felt really bad’ over the treatment rendered to them in Sydney as they felt it was unfair that the visitors were not allowed to be in the same lift with an Australia despite being in the same bio-bubble.

The Sydney Test was later marred with claims of racial abuse after the Indian team lodged an official complaint at the end of Day 3’s play.

Indian players reportedly humiliated by casual racism in Sydney . It was too difficult for us to digest. We are all in the same bubble, but you can’t get into the lift and share the lift space,” said Ashwin.

Ashwin played an instrumental role in helping India win the Test series 2-1 and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite missing the final Test in Brisbane due to his back issue.

He also produced a batting masterclass on Day 5 of the third Test to bail India out of trouble and secure a fighting draw in Sydney.
