Australian pacer James Pattinson was a part of the title-holders Mumbai Indians (MI) squad in the recently concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League.

Sharing his experience of training alongside Bumrah, Pattinson reckoned that he picked the ‘Yorker King’s brain and learned a lot of things from him.

Pattinson had gone unsold in auctions for IPL 2020 but he was later included in the MI squad as a replacement for veteran Lasith Malinga.

Showering praises on Indian pace spearhead, the right-arm fast-medium bowler asserted that the Ahmedabad-born is one of the best bowlers in the shortest format of the game.

He also added that Bumrah trains a lot at the nets and likes to speak about the game and share his experience.

“Boom (Bumrah) is one of the best, if not the best, T20 bowler in the world. And he’s a fantastic guy. The biggest thing was just how much he loves talking about cricket…and he was happy to share a lot of information around his bowling mindset. He bowls a lot more than I thought he would at training. He just bowls and bowls and bowls…you see how switched on he is,” Pattinson was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au

“You watch him bowl and just think ‘how does he do that?” I picked his brain. I was asking about his yorkers and how he gets them so good; he likes to bowl from a higher position and a few other things.”

“It’s fantastic. He’s got an unusual action, been allowed to keep doing that and it’s what makes him successful,” the right-arm pace bowler added.

The 30-year-old also revealed that seeing Bumrah’s bowling had ignited an urge in him to pave his way into the white-ball cricket for Australia. The pacer is currently included in the Test squad of Australia for a four-match series against India.

“It ignited a spark to play more white-ball cricket…to try and get back into Australia’s white-ball teams,” Pattinson added.
