KKR’s journey is going fine in IPL 2020 as they are at the 4th position in the points table.
Ahead of KKR’s match against MI, Karthik stepped down from the position and handed over the role to Morgan.
Gautam Gambhir says this quick decision in the midseason didn’t go well. Gambhir, who led Kolkata to two IPL victories, believes that such pressure shouldn’t have been created over Karthik that he had to step down the midway of the league.
The former Indian opener also believes that Morgan won’t be able to change Kolkata’s fate as they have already been through half of their matches.
Gambhir’s statements came before KKR saw the face of defeat against Mumbai by huge eight wickets.
The match marked the debut of Morgan as captain in the IPL and he did a decent job by getting quick runs for his franchise towards the end of their innings.
Gambhir also questioned the talk about having a WC winning captain amongst them? These things create a lot of pressure on a player like Karthik, and if they preferred Morgan over Karthik, things should have been done from the very beginning only according to Gautam Gambhir.
Cricktracker reported, “If KKR wanted to make this change, they should have done it at the start of the competition. If you are talking so much about a World Cup-winning captain being there in your team puts pressure on someone like Dinesh Karthik then, why not just give it to Morgan straightaway? Why put so much pressure on Karthik?
“My point is, it sounds very good when someone says that I want to concentrate on my batting, but the truth is, you start getting fillers from the management whether they are happy or not, so it’s very unfortunate,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
