Left-arm uncapped seamer David Payne included in England’s T20 squad for the West Indies series for the first time. England selectors have announced a 16-man squad for the five-match series, which will be led by Eoin Morgan.

David Payne, 30, included in England’s ODI squad earlier. This year after England’s first-choice team had to enter isolation ahead of the series against Pakistan. The Gloucestershire seamer did not play a game in that series. But enjoyed a decent home campaign, taking 12 wickets in 9 matches at 8.83ER. He also took six wickets in the inaugural season of The Hundred Playing for the Welsh Fire.

Paul Collingwood will stand in as head coach for the series to be in Barbados in Chris Silverwood’s absence. While Marcus Trescothick will join the team as assistant coach. Of the 16 named players, 11 were in the T20 World Cup. Not including the players currently playing in Australia for the Ashes. Those missing include David Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Tom Curran and David Payne Wiley.

Collingwood said, “Starting our preparations ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia. We have picked a strong team with some serious batting power and a balanced attack. There is less than a year left in the World Cup and the absence of such players. Which will increase the chances for the team with the Ashes team.

This series will start from January 22 and will run till January 30.

The squad for the upcoming three-Test series will be announced in due course. This series is going to start in Antigua from March 8.
