Former New Zealand all-rounder Bruce Taylor dies

Bruce Richard Taylor was a New Zealand Test and One Day International cricketer who played 30 Tests and 2 ODIs between 1965 and 1973.

He is the only cricketer to score a century and take a five-wicket haul on debut in a Test match

“NZC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of NZ all-rounder, Bruce Taylor, aged 77. In his 30 Tests, Bruce was a force of nature & remains the only player in the world to have scored a century & taken a five-for on Test debut.

Taylor played 32 matches for New Zealand. Thirty of those appearances came in the longest format, where he scored 898 runs at an average of 20.40

He took 111 wickets at an average of 26.60, with a career-best 7 for 74 against the West Indies in 1972.

His highest first-class score was 173 for Wellington against Otago in the summer of 1972-73.

Taylor also played 141 first-class games for Canterbury and Wellington, scoring 4579 runs and taking 422 wickets.

Once his playing days had finished, Taylor filled selection roles for Otago, Wellington, and New Zealand, and had a hand in selecting the New Zealand squad for the 1992 ICC World Cup.
