Mohammad Amir takes three as Tallawah makes it two out of two

Mohammad Amir returned 3 for 22 as the Jamaica Tallawahs restricted the Guyana Amazon Warriors to a sub-par of 142, which they achieved with four wickets and four balls to spare. Chasing an unbeaten 44 from captain Rovman Powell, the Tallawahs registered their second win of the CPL 2022 season.

In his first over he dismissed the dangerous Paul Stirling, and in his second over he dismissed the second opener Chanderpaul Hemraj.

It came through a 66-run stand between Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, but unfortunately for the Amazon Warriors, the pair scored less than a run-a-ball in 11.4 overs. The trouble for Guyana was not just the slow scoring rate but what happened after that.

Romario Shepherd, however, got him out of trouble with the help of three fours off 36 balls and as many sixes as Heinrich Klaasen in 17 balls, adding 22* to the total of 140.

Amir returned to dismiss Odion Smith for his third wicket to ensure that his side was not chasing too much on the challenging surface

Mohammad Amir returned to dismiss Odeon Smith for his third wicket to ensure that his side was not chasing too much on the challenging surface. The relatively low number of targets to chase meant that the Tallawahs could not take risks against Guyana’s three-pronged spin attack. Gudkesh Moti (2 for 10), Imran Tahir (1 for 22), and Tabrez Shamsi (1 for 24) all returned economical figures, with Powell launching a calculated attack on Shepherd and Odeon Smith, which ended in 7.2 overs. Finished. 87 runs.

Chris Green then hit a four and a six off Odeon and when the strike reversed, Powell hit six sixes in the 18th over after scoring 23 runs. After that the chase was regular.

Brief scores: Guyana Amazon Warriors 142/6 in 20 overs (Romario Shepherd 36; Mohammad Amir 3-22) lost to Jamaica Tallawahs 143/6 in 19.2 overs (Rovman Powell 44*; Gudakesh Moti 2-10) by four wickets
