Speculations are rife that a group led by former board members has started a campaign to oust Ramiz Raja from the post of PCB chairman. This group has claimed that something is going on behind the scenes. The Law Ministry of the country has met the Prime Minister, the patron of the board, for changes in the PCB.

A PCB source said, “Yes, something is going on. Rumors abound that Najam Sethi recently met the Prime Minister at a function in Lahore. In such a situation, Ramiz can be removed from the post. Rameez is the PCB chairman since September 2021 and was nominated by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

When Imran Khan’s party won a majority of seats in the 2018 general elections, Najam Sethi resigned as PCB chairman. Former Pakistan captain and member of the 1992 World Cup winning team, Ramiz Raja was unanimously elected as the 36th chairman of the PCB in September last year for a term of 3 years.

Sethi stepped down from the post of PCB chairman in 2018 when Imran Khan became the Prime Minister but he was forced to step down from his post due to his bad relations with Imran. Sethi also served as the PCB chairman in 2013 and 2014.

PM nominates

Under the constitution of the Board, the Prime Minister nominates candidates for the post of Chairman and one of them is selected by the Board of Governors. However, after Shahbaz Sharif became the prime minister, Ramiz managed to retain his post.
