Ranji Trophy 2022 QF: Uttar Pradesh make it to the semi-finals

Captain Karan Sharma scored an unbeaten half-century after a fine performance by the bowlers as Uttar Pradesh defeated Karnataka by five wickets on the third day of the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals to make it to the semi-finals despite being trailing in the first innings. Taking a lead of 98 runs in the first innings, Karnataka’s team was in front of the sharp bowling of Saurabh Kumar (3 for 36), Ankit Rajput (2 for 15) and Yash Dayal (2 for 35) in the second innings. Got bundled out for just 114 runs. Uttar Pradesh thus got the target of 213 runs, which they achieved by scoring 213 runs for five wickets in 65.2 overs.

Uttar Pradesh’s team was also in trouble after losing five wickets for 114 runs. But captain Karan (93 not out) and Prince Yadav (33 not out) made an unbroken partnership of 99 runs for the sixth wicket. . Karan hit 13 fours and a six during his patient innings of 163 balls. Priyam Garg also played a fine innings of 52 runs in 60 balls.

Earlier, Karnataka had scored 253 runs in the first innings. In reply to which Uttar Pradesh could only manage 155 runs. For Karnataka, only Srinivas Sharath (23 not out) and Mayank Agarwal (22) could cross the 20-run mark in the second innings. Had the extra run not contributed to 20 runs. Karnataka would not have been able to cross even the 100-run mark. Karnataka’s team went ahead of 100 runs for eight wickets on Wednesday. And added 14 runs and lost the wickets of Ronit More (0) and Vidhat Kaverapa (0). Both the wickets went to Dayal’s account.
