Root admits he didn’t perform as well

Root said his side had responded well to defeats in the past but admitted they had fallen short in their level of performance.

Root: Dropped five catches-

England was bowled out for 147 within two seasons. Root opted to bat first in the sky and on the field, he dropped five catches and missed at least two run-out chances as Australia scored in the first innings. Took a lead of 278 runs. Root said his side had responded well to defeats in the past. But admitted they had fallen short in their level of performance.

Joe Root has insisted that England can recover from their nine-wicket loss at the Gabba and that his team is “not afraid of the challenge”. But acknowledged that their catching and first-innings batting efforts were not up to scratch.

With this five-match series, it’s really important that we don’t feel too sorry for ourselves behind this loss.

We have to get better in that first innings-
