Stopping India’s huge top-order – especially Smriti Mandhana – is England’s goal if they want to keep their ODI series alive and prevent the final match at Lord’s from turning into a dead rubber.

Mandhana produced a match-defining inning of 91 runs as India chased down a target of 228 with seven wickets and 5.4 overs to go 1-0 up in the ODI leg of their tour in Hove on Sunday. He was well supported by Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten 74 and Yastika Bhatia’s half-century as England posted 232 for 3 in reply to 227 for 7. The performance came as Mandhana propelled her side in the T20I series with an unbeaten 79 as India won the second match in the derby before England registered a 2-1 victory in the decider in Bristol.

“They have some experienced players, so it really depends on what day we are coming up against, but Smriti and Harman batted very well on the second day and got us out of the game. Sure. Sure. Formally. An important wicket for us,” said Dunkle.

Mandhana climbed three places to reach a career-best No. 2 spot from Australia’s Beth Mooney in the ICC T20I rankings released on Tuesday. It’s interesting. That’s where I want to be in both those formats and this is a great opportunity to take a little responsibility with the bat and influence our game for England.

In the opening T20Is of this tour, Dunkley overcame a difficult and chance-laden start to guide England’s successful run chase with an unbeaten 61 off 44 balls when legspinner Sarah Glenn took India to a career-high 23. Delivered to Well placed with Best of 4.
