At the end of this year, the Indian cricket team was announced for the Asia Cup 2022 to be played in the UAE. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member squad on Monday, 8 August. The selectors selected the final fifty after much deliberation, but for some time about half a dozen players, who have been playing continuously for the team, did not get a chance in Asia Cup 2022.

Only a 15-member team is selected for the multi-nation tournament and in such a situation, about half a dozen players could not make it to it. Although three players will travel with the UAE team as reserve, it is believed that those players may not be needed. Apart from the final fifty, the BCCI has selected Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, and Axar Patel as reserves in the squad for the Asia Cup 2022.
