‘This kind of a pitch or the other pitches? You don’t want….’, Ravi Shastri asks pitch critics

With the Motera track showing no signs of wear and tear, a result looked improbable even after the end of day four, but academic interest was whether India could weather the collapse on day five. Only 21 wickets have fallen in the Test so far in the last 4.5 days and this has again sparked the debate on pitches needing Test cricket. Now former India head coach Ravi Shastri has responded to the critics regarding the pitch.

Responding to the Ahmedabad pitch, Ravi Shastri said while on air for commentary at Star –

“We need to talk about these numbers – 91 wickets over seven days and 15 wickets over four days.”

Shastri shot back – “So what do you want, this kind of a pitch or the other pitches? You don’t want to finish in three days yes, totally agree, but that could also be because of incompetent batting. I hope all those whiners about Indian pitches are happy now.”

While former Australian cricketer called the Ahmedabad pitch ’22-day pitch’,he said –

Mark Waugh said – ”The last three Tests were two-day pitches, but this is a 22-day pitch. It’s not good enough, [India] knew they only needed a draw to win the series, and India are batting like they want a draw, very disappointing we won’t get a result here.”
