37-year-old Porterfield had already given this information to Cricket Ireland, after which the board made an official announcement yesterday.

Porterfield was the third-highest Irishman and second-highest run-scorer for Ireland.

It is worth noting that in the year 2008, Cricket Ireland made Porterfield the captain of their team. During this, this player took command of the team in more than 250 matches.

Porterfield captained the Ireland team in two Cricket World Cups and five T20 World Cups. Most notably in a spectacular defeat to England in the 2011 50-over tournament at Bangalore.
