Williamson: We need to strike a balance to change the cricketing landscape

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that the cricket landscape is changing rapidly and there is work to strike a balance between players playing in various T20 leagues and national duty.

Last month, leading New Zealand pacer Trent Boult was released from his national contract following a request he could spend more time with his family and make himself available for domestic leagues around the world. On the other hand, Bolt will play for Melbourne Stars in the BBL.

“It’s difficult because it’s changing. It seems like a lot happened so quickly,” Williamson told reporters. “It seems to be a movement in the sporting landscape. Every case is unique and each has its individual needs at different stages of their lives. Many different franchise events are happening and players make decisions about them. Watching a career play shows a balance to strike and a few things to work on.”

“At the moment I’m very much here and want to do my best for the team. I love being in this environment. It’s good to have those 10 days at home and the body is feeling good. It’s good to be training batting completely and for long hours in the nets.”

The Williamson-led New Zealand side will be looking to end their 13-year barren run in the 50-over format in Australia when they take on the hosts in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Kajali Stadium in Cairns.
