AFG vs AUS: They say that in cricket the match does not end until the last ball of the match is bowled. Something like this was seen in match number 39 of the ICC World Cup 2023 when Australia’s Glenn Maxwell single-handedly changed the course of the entire match.

In the match, when Australia, chasing 291 runs, had lost 7 wickets for 91 runs in 18 overs, it seemed as if Afghanistan had almost taken the match in their hands and the whole world was shocked by the biggest defeat in the history of cricket. Fully ready to cause an upset, but Glenn Maxwell along with captain Pat Cummins changed the course of the entire match and played a brilliant inning of 201 runs unbeaten on an incredible 128 balls, winning the match for Australia.

Highest run chase made by any team in Wankhede Stadium:-

In this innings, Glenn Maxwell hit a total of 31 boundaries which included 10 sixes and 21 fours. After this spectacular victory, Australia has also confirmed its place in the semi-finals. Also, this is the highest run chase done by any team at Wankhede Stadium. Before this no team had been able to successfully chase a target of more than 280.

This innings of Glenn Maxwell was also appreciated by legendary batsmen like Ben Stokes, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. He described it as his “best ODI innings”.

Sachin Tendulkar also praised Afghanistan’s 21-year-old batsman Ibrahim Zadran a lot. Zadran, who made his ODI debut almost four years ago, played a key role in Afghanistan reaching a respectable score by scoring an unbeaten 129 runs off 143 balls against Australia.
