ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Australia’s rhetoric regarding the pitch is not stopping even after winning the World Cup. Australia won the title by defeating India in the final of World Cup 2023. The Australian team became champions for the sixth time.
But still, the Australian media and some former veterans are not desisting from making statements regarding the pitch. The controversy that started regarding the pitch continues even after the World Cup is over.
After the victory in the final, an Australian media platform again raised the issue of the pitch by taunting the Indian team. However, this media platform has written this post quoting a former Australian cricketer.
Pitch Controversy is Not Stopping:-
Fox Cricket, in one of its posts, gave the caption on the X and quoted an Australian legend as saying, ‘I am surprised that a low and slow wicket was made which did not help them (India) themselves.’ This statement was made by the former Australian bowler. Brett Lee gave it.
While talking to Fox Cricket, he said that making a slow pitch for the World Cup final took away the biggest strength of Team India.
He believes that India’s fast bowlers performed brilliantly throughout the World Cup. In such a situation, India has suffered loss due to this kind of pitch in the final.
The Australian Team Was Not Happy:-
Before the final match, there were some reports that the Australian team was not happy with the wicket. Captain Pat Cummins himself was in doubt about the pitch.
After, winning the toss in the final, he played such a masterstroke which made him the world champion.
But the discussion is still going on regarding the wicket. This pitch controversy has been going on ever since India and New Zealand faced each other in the first semi-final of the World Cup 2023.
How Did The Pitch Controversy Start?
Actually, the India-New Zealand semi-final was played on 15 November, and even before that questions were being raised about the pitch. It was said that the knockout matches are played on fresh pitches, whereas the match between India and New Zealand was played on a used pitch and the pitch was changed before the match.
After the defeat in the semi-finals, New Zealand’s media also entered this controversy. Then gradually the Australian media also jumped into this controversy. However, ICC has made it clear that this is not a controversy.
This is a common occurrence in such events and the pitch was changed only with his knowledge and consent. Still, the mourners kept on crying and adding to this so-called controversy. Even after the final match, this controversy is not stopping.
