Pakistan Cricket Board: Babar Azam left the captaincy, also said this about the new captain of the Pakistan cricket team. Pakistan captain Babar Azam has now taken a big step after the team’s poor performance in the World Cup 2023.
Announced To Step Down From Captaincy in All Formats:-
There were constant speculations that Babar Azam would step down from the captaincy of the team or the Pakistan Cricket Board would take some major decision. Now on Wednesday, November 15, the Pakistani cricketer posted a letter on X and announced his decision to step down from captaincy in all formats. He also mentioned making the team the number 1 ODI team during his captaincy.

Babar Azam shared the letter while posting on his X handle and wrote in it, ‘I remember when I was given the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team in 2019. There have been many ups and downs in these four years.
But all the time I had only one goal that the honor of Pakistan should never be harmed in the cricket world. Becoming the number one team in the white ball format was the result of hard work by all the coaches, players, and team staff. I also thank all the fans for their support.
I Will Always Be With The Pakistan Cricket Team As A Player:-
He further wrote, ‘Today I announce my resignation from captaincy in all formats. This decision is not easy for me but I think this is the right time to take this decision. I will always be with the Pakistan cricket team as a player. I will also keep sharing my experience with the new captain.
I want to thank the Pakistan cricket team for giving me this responsibility. Let us tell you that the Pakistan team stood fifth in the World Cup 2023 under the captaincy of Babar Azam. The team lost 5 out of 9 league matches.
Azam Was The Third-Highest Run Scorer For Pakistan:-
Babar also did not perform very well in the World Cup 2023 and in nine matches he scored only 320 runs at an average of 40. However, he remained the third-highest run scorer for Pakistan.

Pakistan lost five out of nine matches played in the tournament and won only four. With eight points, he finished the tournament in fifth place.
