World Cup 2023, Yuzvendra Chahal: Late last month, India announced their 17-man squad for the Asia Cup along with traveling reserves, with regular players making it into the squad with no surprises.
But the name of India’s magical spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not in this team. Veteran cricketers like Harbhajan Singh were surprised by India’s move but were confident that the spinner would be back for the World Cup.
Chahal spoke openly for the first time about not being selected in the team :-
But despite having a late opening in the team, Chahal was once again ignored. For the first time after two big team selections for India, Chahal has spoken openly on his omission from the World Cup squad.
In June 2016, Chahal made his debut in the ODI format and has taken 121 wickets in 72 matches, the third most by an Indian bowler and second only to Kuldeep Yadav among spinners.
Yuzvendra Chahal said this from Wisden India :-
Let us tell you that while talking to Wisden India, Chahal revealed that he was very disappointed to be left out of the World Cup squad, but then he laughed it off saying that this has happened to him three times now in his career.
Chahal further said “I think only fifteen players can be a part of it because it’s the World Cup, where you can’t take 17 or 18,” Chahal said with a laugh. “I feel a little bad, but my aim in life is to move forward. I have got used to it now… it’s been three World Cups. ,
Yuzvendra Chahal said sharp words to Ashwin:-
The squad was actually delayed due to Axar’s injury during the Asia Cup, but the selectors decided to test Ashwin, who had by then not played an ODI in 20 months, and Washington Sundar in the home series against Australia. Did. A week later, Axar was dropped from the World Cup squad and India went with the experience of Ashwin for the domestic tournament.
“I don’t think too much in that sense (on competing with other spinners in the Indian team) because I know if I perform well, I will play,” Chahal said. “Someone will eventually take your place in the future. That time will come some day.”
