The ICC on Saturday (November 4) announced that Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the World Cup. In his place, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been included in the Indian team.

Pandya suffered an injury to his left ankle

Pandya suffered an injury to his left ankle while bowling in the match against Bangladesh in Pune last month. He was undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru before it was confirmed. He would not be able to take any further part in the ongoing tournament.

Prasidh Krishna has played 17 ODIs

Prasidh Krishna, who has played 17 ODIs, has been approved by the ICC Technical Committee as Pandya’s replacement. He has taken 29 ODI wickets at an average of 25.58. He will be the fifth fast-bowling option in the team which already includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur.

Prasidh Krishna has played only 19 white ball matches for India. He was last seen playing for his country against Australia, taking 1 wicket for 45 runs in nine overs.

India has so far filled Pandya’s absence by bringing in Suryakumar Yadav in place of Pandya and Mohammed Shami in place of Shardul Thakur at number 6.

India will play its next match against South Africa at Eden Gardens on Sunday, this match will start at 2 pm.

Indian team remains the only unbeaten in the World Cup 2023, topping the points table with seven wins.
