IND vs NZ: Mohammed Shami creates history in World Cup, leaves Anil Kumble behind

World Cup 2023, Mohammed Shami: The teams of India and New Zealand were face to face in the 21st match of the World Cup. Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.

The Indian team came on the field with two changes. This had to be done due to injury to all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Shardul Thakur had to be out to fix the team combination. Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav were kept in the playing-11 and Shami proved the decision of the team management right by taking five wickets in this match.

Mohammed Shami left Anil Kumble behind :-

Shami called by Rohit Sharma to bowl in the ninth over. Shami took a wicket on his very first ball in this World Cup. He clean bowled Kiwi opener Will Young. Young was out after scoring 17 runs on 27 balls.

This was Shami’s 32nd wicket in World Cup history. He became the third Indian bowler to take the most wickets in the tournament. He left Anil Kumble behind. Not only this, Shami also created history in the World Cup. He became the only Indian bowler to take five or more wickets twice in the history of the tournament. Shami had taken five wickets against England in the last World Cup.
