Meg Lanning announced her retirement from international cricket at the age of 31

Meg Lanning retirement: Meg Lanning, one of Australia’s most successful captains, has surprised everyone by announcing her retirement from international cricket at the age of 31.

Lanning is currently captaining the Melbourne Stars in the WBBL and is set to continue playing domestic cricket.

Meg Lanning said on announcing her retirement :-

Meg Lanning said on announcing her retirement, “It was a difficult decision to step away from international cricket, but I feel now is the right time for me.”

“I have been incredibly fortunate to enjoy a 13-year international career, but I know now is the right time for me to move on to something new.

“I would like to thank my family, my teammates, Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricket Association for their support.”

Lanning further said,”I would also like to say a big thank you to all the fans who have supported me throughout my international career.”

Meg Lanning’s international career :-

Talking about Meg Lanning’s international career, she made her debut in international cricket in 2010 at the age of 18. He has played six Tests, 103 ODIs and 132 T20I matches for Australia.

Lanning has scored 345 runs in 6 Test matches at an average of 31.36, 4602 runs in 103 ODI matches at an average of 53.51 and 4405 runs in 132 T20I matches at an average of 41.43. During this period, he has also scored 15 centuries in ODI and 2 centuries in T20I.

Lanning has many special achievements in her name :-

Apart from this, Lanning is a seven-time World Cup winner, five of which he has won as captain. Lanning has played an important role in Australia winning the 2013, 2022 ODI World Cup and 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, 2023 T20I World Cup. He also won the gold medal for Australia in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. She is also the 2014,2015 and 2017 Belinda Clark Award winner.

Apart from this, Lanning is one of the 11 women who have scored more than 4000 runs in ODI.
