Naveen ul Haq retirement: In a shocking development, fast bowler Naveen ul Haq, who is part of the Afghanistan squad for the upcoming World Cup, has given big news about his future in the 50-over format. The fast bowler announced in an Instagram post that he will retire from the format after the ODI World Cup.

Naveen ul Haq said this on his retirement:-

Naveen ul Haq mentioned that although it was not an easy decision but he feels it will help him prolong his playing career. “It has been an immense honor to represent my country, I would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in T20 cricket for my country. It’s not easy to take.” But had to take this difficult decision to prolong my playing career, I want to thank @afghanistancricketboard. And to all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” Naveen wrote along with a picture of himself in the Afghanistan jersey.

Naveen was not part of Asia Cup 2023 team :-

Naveen was not part of the Afghanistan team playing in the Asia Cup, but has been recalled for the World Cup starting October 5 in India. Apart from his commitments with the national team, the 24-year-old has been included in this squad. A leading figure in franchise leagues around the world.

Naveen also made headlines due to his on-field tension with Virat Kohli during the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Career of Naveen ul Haq :-

If we look at his career, Naveen has participated in only seven ODI matches in which he has taken 14 wickets at an average of 25.42. Naveen made his debut in 2016 against Bangladesh in Mirpur. His last ODI match was against Ireland in Abu Dhabi in 2021.

Afghanistan will participate in the practice match against Sri Lanka on October 3 :-

From what we have seen in the IPL, Naveen will be one of the key players for Afghanistan in the World Cup. He took a total of 11 wickets in eight matches for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Although Afghanistan are not among the favorites to qualify for the semi-finals, the team is loaded with promising talent. Rashid Khan, who was a hit with both bat and ball, will be the player to watch from the Afghanistan camp, which also has the likes of Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rehman among the spin options.

Afghanistan will take part in a warm-up match against Sri Lanka on October 3 and then begin their campaign against Bangladesh in Dharamsala on October 7.
