Nazmul Hussain Shanto: Shakib is fully prepared to face Afghanistan

Bangladesh stand-in captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto provided an update on Shakib Al Hasan’s availability for the team’s first match at the ICC World Cup 2023. Nazmul Hossain Shanto confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan is 100 percent fit to play against Afghanistan.

Shakib was injured during the practice session

Shakib Al Hasan suffered a leg injury during a practice session before the warm-up matches. The experienced all-rounder missed two practice matches against Sri Lanka and England respectively. Reports- he ruled out of the first match.

Shakib Al Hasan is 100% fine – Nazmul Hussain Shanto

During the toss in the second warm-up match against England, Nazmul Hussain Shanto opened up about Shakib Al Hasan’s availability for the opening match of the tournament against Afghanistan.

(On Shakib) He is 100% fine, he will be available for the first match. We played good cricket in the last match, but we still need to improve. I hope everyone plays well,” Shanto said.

Bangladesh is currently in Barsapara, Guwahati

Bangladesh is currently facing the Jos Buttler-led side at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Notably, Mehidy Hasan Miraz led the team in the first game. They registered an impressive seven-wicket win against Sri Lanka at the same venue.

Bangladesh has to face Afghanistan on 7th October

Shakib will be an important player for Bangladesh due to his exceptional all-round skills and extensive experience. The left-handed batsman was the leading run-scorer for his team in the 2019 World Cup, scoring 606 runs at an average of 86.57, which included 2 centuries and 5 fifties.

The Shakib Al Hasan-led team will begin their campaign with a match against Afghanistan on October 7 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Bangla Tigers will be hoping to get their season off to a great start with a win.
