New Zealand Hope Injured Spinner Mitchell Will Be Fit in Time For Cricket World Cup

ICC ODI WC 2023: New Zealand is hopeful that injured spinner Mitchell will be fit in time for the Cricket World Cup. New Zealand are confident about the fitness of one of their key bowlers ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Black Caps all-rounder Mitchell Santner was injured against England in the ongoing ODI series between the two countries.

He suffered a knee injury during the second ODI at the Ageas Bowl and missed the next game.

Given that Ish Sodhi is being rested ahead of the Cricket World Cup, the absence of a full-time spinner has become a matter of concern for New Zealand.

Other options: Rachin Ravindra (2 for 28 without a wicket) and Glenn Phillips (8 for 57 with one wicket) struggled in the third game.

Nevertheless, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead is confident about Santner’s availability.

“Mitch has had a full scan on his knee, which he landed on when he took that catch in the last game at the Ageas Bowl,” Stead said.

“It has come back positive, which is good for us. There is still a lot of swelling around his knee, which they believe is a joint problem. It is nothing more than that.”

The Fast Bowler Took Eight Wickets in His Two Matches On This Tour:-

While Santner’s absence is a matter of concern, Stead was happy with the return of Trent Boult. The left-arm fast bowler has taken eight wickets in his two matches on this tour.

“It’s great to have Trent back: he brings a lot of energy and a lot of skill to the top of the order for us.

In the two matches he has played, he has shown his ability to beat England as a world-class player.

England is leading 2-1 in the four-match ODI series against New Zealand. Both the teams will play the fourth ODI match at Lord’s on September 15.
