According to the Cricket Pakistan report, Pakistani cricketers have not received any payment from the PCB in the form of monthly retainer or match fees for the last four months. The players are angry with this and are silently protesting against it.
Pakistani cricketers are ready to protest in the World Cup over a contract dispute! According to earlier reports, top players including captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi were offered a monthly retainership of Pakistani rupees 45 lakh (approximately Rs 13.22 lakh).
However, after taxes and deductions, they will get around 22 to 23 lakh Pakistani rupees. The players are in talks with the PCB regarding this.
Earlier, Pakistani Test cricketers used to get 11 lakh Pakistani rupees (about Rs 3.2 lakh). And limited overs cricketers got 9.5 lakh Pakistani rupees (about Rs 2.8 lakh) every month.
But the central contracts have not been signed yet and now Pakistani players can take some big steps regarding this.
However, Pakistani players are refraining from taking any step which may affect the preparations for the World Cup.
But now they are considering the possibility of boycotting wearing jerseys with sponsor logos during this mega event.
According to this report, a Pakistani cricketer said that he is ready to play for the country for free. But is not ready to promote sponsor logos on the jerseys attaching to the board because his salary is not received on time.
The player also believed that the Pakistan cricket team may refuse to participate in ICC-related media events during the World Cup. Which could put the reputation of the board and the team at stake.
This Pakistani cricketer said, “We are willing to play for Pakistan for free. But our question is why should we promote sponsored logos associated with the board?
We may similarly decline to participate in promotional activities and other events. Also, we will not participate in ICC’s commercial activities during the World Cup.
According to reports, the players are now demanding a share of the revenue received by the PCB from the ICC and sponsors.
While the Pakistan Cricket Board feels that the contracts given to the players are fine the players’ agents are trying to influence their stance.
The Pakistan cricket team is setting to fly to India for the World Cup 2023. Where it will play the first of its two warm-up matches against New Zealand on September 29 in Hyderabad.
