SA vs SL, Kusal Mendis: South Africa is clashing with Sri Lanka in the fourth match of ICC World Cup 2023. On the basis of the excellent performance of the batsmen, South Africa has set a mountain-like target of 429 runs in front of Sri Lanka. In response to this, Kushal Mendis has given a flying start to Sri Lanka. Mendis has also shattered Sanath Jayasuriya’s big record by scoring a half-century in just 25 balls.

Kusal Mendis created havoc :-

Kusal Mendis took the lead immediately after Pathum Nissanka was out on zero and took the South African fast bowlers seriously. The Sri Lankan batsman played in a stormy style and completed his half-century in just 25 balls.

Kushal played a brilliant inning of 76 runs facing just 42 balls before getting out. During this, he hit 4 fours and eight skyscraper sixes at a strike rate of 180. Mendis has also made the record of scoring the third fastest fifty for Sri Lanka in ODI cricket.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s record broken :-

Kushal Mendis has left Sanath Jayasuriya behind in terms of hitting most sixes in an innings of the World Cup. Mendis hit eight sixes during his innings of 76 runs. Whereas, Jayasuriya had hit 7 sixes while playing against Bangladesh in the year 2007. That means Mendis has destroyed Jayasuriya’s 16 year old record.
