Shakib Al Hasan Retirement: Shakib will retire from all formats of cricket after the Champions Trophy

Shakib Al Hasan Retirement: Bangladesh’s experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is considering retiring from international cricket after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He revealed this during a TV interview on Wednesday (September 27). Shakib also insisted that he will not lead the team after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Shakib will retire from all formats of cricket

Shakib, who made his international debut in 2006, has performed well for Bangladesh in all formats. He has also started taking charge of the team in recent years. Even before this, Shakib had been the captain of the Bangladesh team. At the age of 36, Shakib is still in strong shape and aims to serve the national team for around 1.5 years. Notably, he is currently the captain of the team across all formats. He will step down from the captaincy after the World Cup.

The journey is till 2025 Champions Trophy

Shakib told T-Sports, “As far as international career is concerned, what I am looking at right now is till the 2025 Champions Trophy which is the ODI format. But in the T20 format only till the 2024 World Cup. As far as the test is concerned, a decision on this can be taken soon. It is also possible that I retire from all three formats at the same time.” The 2025 Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in February-March.

Shakib’s statistics

Shakib has scored 7,384 runs in 240 ODI matches at an average of 37.55. He is the bowler who has taken the most wickets (308) in ODIs for Bangladesh. Shakib is the highest run scorer and highest wicket taker for Bangladesh in T20 Internationals. He has scored 2,382 runs in 117 matches at an average of 23.82 and taken 140 wickets. While in Tests, he scored 4,454 runs in 66 matches at an average of 39.07, while taking 233 wickets (the highest for Bangladesh).
