When Kusal Mendis was holding a press conference on Sunday before the World Cup match against Bangladesh to be held in Delhi on Monday, a reporter asked him if he would like to congratulate Kohli for his 49th ODI century.

Virat Kohli became the third-highest run scorer in ODI World Cup history by surpassing Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, equaling Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in ODIs.

In 8 matches of the current World Cup, Virat has scored 542 runs at an average of 108.40, which includes 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries. His best score is 103*. He is the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament so far.

Virat’s record-equalling century came on the same ground where he scored his first international century against Sri Lanka in 2009.

This star batsman now has the second-highest number of centuries in International Cricket after Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 centuries.
