World Cup 2023: New Zealand gets double blow, Kane Williamson and star pacer will miss the first match

World Cup 2023, Kane Williamson: Before the start of the ICC World Cup 2023, not one, but two bad news has come out for the New Zealand team. The Kiwi team will not be able to get the facilities of regular captain Kane Williamson in the opening match of the tournament against England. In place of Williamson, Tom Lathan will be seen leading the New Zealand team in the first match.

World Cup 2023: New Zealand will enter without Williamson:-

Tom Latham, while interacting with the media at the ‘Captain’s Day Event’ organized by ICC, said that Kane Williamson will miss the match against England.

According to Latham, Williamson is recovering from a knee injury and due to this he will not be a part of the team in the first match. Kane Williamson took part in the practice match and also played a half-century.

Star bowler will also miss the opening match:-

Apart from Kane Williamson, the team’s fast bowler Tim Southee will also not play the opening match of the tournament against England. Saudi did not even participate in both the warm-up matches. Saudi injured his thumb while fielding in the ODI series played against England. After the scan, Saudi was found to have a fracture in his thumb.

Stokes is also difficult to play :-

Along with New Zealand, the England team is also troubled by the injuries of its players. It seems very difficult for Ben Stokes to play in the opening match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Captain Jos Buttler has told that Stokes has suffered a hip injury. Due to this he may miss the first match of the tournament. Stokes has returned from retirement to play the World Cup.
