If Virat And Rohit Will Open in The T20 World Cup 2024, Will Yashasvi Jaiswal Face Difficulty? Remember that big BCCI meeting last November, right after the ODI World Cup? They were discussing the T20 World Cup coming up in June, in the US and West Indies. Here’s the juicy part: most people thought Virat Kohli wouldn’t automatically be on the team!

Kohli Skipped All T20 Matches Until This Year’s ODI World Cup:-

Why? Because after the 2022 T20 World Cup, Kohli skipped all T20 matches until this year’s ODI World Cup. But then, just before the Afghanistan T20 series, Kohli said he wanted back in and even made himself available for the World Cup. This left the team management confused.

Here’s the twist: some top BCCI officials didn’t want to drop Kohli, especially during election season and with his massive fan base. So, they hinted to Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid (coach), and Ajit Agarkar (chief selector) to consider Kohli.

Fast forward to today’s IPL – Kohli’s smashing it! He’s already grabbed an orange cap with a hundred and over 350 runs in just seven matches. No wonder, he recently asked the team management to clarify his World Cup spot. They’ve given him the green light!

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Last week, Dravid, Agarkar, and Rohit met at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to discuss the World Cup squad. Since Kohli’s opening in the IPL, they’re considering him and Rohit as the opening pair for the World Cup.

But Hold On! This Could Mean Trouble For Yashasvi Jaiswal:-

Jaiswal had a fantastic IPL last year and was a contender for the World Cup squad. But if Rohit-Virat open, there’s no space for him or Shubman Gill as a backup opener. As of now, based on IPL performance, Gill seems to have the edge.
